Access to Justice
Justice in Afghanistan is a complicated business. Before Taliban regime, two justice systems – state laws based on the civil law and Islamic jurisprudence – combine with non-state institutions, such as village jirgas (circles) or shuras (councils) prevailed, to resolve disputes and deal with offences. If the current political instability prevails in Afghanistan, it is worried that justice system may again be highly influenced by the influential individuals/ armed / ethnic groups.
